Sony lenses are in most cases direct descendents of the many excellent optical designs developed by Minolta engineers. Sony bought out all of Minolta's (at the time, known as Konica Minolta) lens designs in 2006. This ended Minolta's long history in the camera and lens business, but many current Sony lenses actually trace their heritage directly to earlier Minolta designs. Newer Sony lenses are in many cases being created by the same talented Minolta designers who won that company fame for its optical quality. Other Sony lenses are based on designs from legendary lens maker Carl Zeiss. See below for any model of Sony prime or zoom lens currently on the market.
